Shanky Radics is a professional Kenyan Dancehall/Pop artiste (musician). He is most well known for his hit singles and thrilling performances across East Africa and is an avid social networking fan; on Facebook and Twitter. Shanky started doing music at a tender age of 11 years back in primary school. The passion for music started growing stronger and stronger in him when he was pursuing his “O” Level studies.
He was inspired by his role models Shaggy, Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Shabba Ranks, Super Cut, Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Sean Paul, Fela Kuti; among others.
In his early teens he used to visit clubs such as Florida, Kengele’s, Zigzag and New York in Nairobi city to participate in their music competitions. In 1998 and 1999, he participated in an MC competition at Florida and won “The Best Dance Hall Artiste” title. In the year 2000, he met Redsan, Lyrical Erico and Kidush, together they formed a group popularly known as One 11 Moja. They recorded a number of dance hall hits such as Mabeste, Chakacha, Amanda and Omuhana. The songs were recorded at Sync Sounds (the studios that brought up artistes such as Hardstone, Kalamashaka and Shad 0 Blak). He performed with the group for two years before parting ways. Shanky has also done collaborations with Ugandan multi-talented artiste Jose Chameleon and Shanks Vividie in a song called Number One. In 2004, he collaborated with Bombshell and came up with biggest Dancehall song in the country Bambika. Bambika’s video received massive air play across East and Central Africa which was enormous boost to his music career. Shanky also shared the stage with the famous Jamaican Dancehall artiste Sean Paul during “Everblazing Concert” at Carnivore grounds. He performed alongside UK’s Dancehall great – Apache Indian in 2008 and also curtain raised for the Jamaican Dancehall group T.O.K during the Nairobi concert at Carnivore grounds. In 2009, he shared the stage with Nigerian group P Square during the Zain concert. Recently, Shanky received “Golden Mic Award” for being one of the pioneers in Kenyan music industry (pictured left). On the 27 September 2011, he was one of the artists who performed at Uhuru Park for Kenyans 4 Kenya grand concert which was raising funds for Kenyans stricken by hunger in the North Eastern Province of Kenya. Shanky has also worked with Ida Odinga, the wife to the Kenya’s former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in his Presidential campaign lobby team “Sibanduki”.
Shanky is currently working on his debut album titled “Kenyan Gold” which includes hits tracks such as Bambika, All night long, Dangerous, My love, Mama Africa, Vinnela and other songs. “All night long” & “Vinnela” music videos are dominantly playing on Radio Stations and TV channels. His latest song “Leo ni Leo” is also gaining popularity locally and nationally.
